Summary of Services

We are more than just a free meal! Listed below are some of the services we now offer:

Caregiver Support

Services for Caregivers of tribal seniors include education on caring for seniors, relief for primary caregivers of seniors and quarterly education caring for the nutritional health of the senior. Our program has two Caregiver Coordinators. They are responsible for going into the homes of homebound seniors to provide the caregivers with the necessary tools and assistance to best care for the older adults under their care.

Our Caregiver Coordinators also present the Fit-After-50 exercise program and quarterly nutrition education at some of the congregate sites.

Information & Referrals

Information and referrals to programs that meet the individual needs of the senior or caregiver. Guest speakers on safety, accident prevention and other services available to aid seniors.

Social Activities for Seniors

*Parties for our seniors on many holidays
*The congregate sites offer opportunities to play Bingo for prizes.
*Senior movie Fridays

Free Lunch

Lunch for the senior that provides 1/3 of the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for all nutrients offered 5 days a week.

Education for Seniors

The RSBCIHI Senior Program has taken surveys and done a needs assessment for the health educational needs and interest of our program participants.

Based on the needs assessment, we will be educating our seniors on issues such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Obesity prevention
  • Heart disease
  • Arthritis
  • Stroke
  • Shingles
  • Physical activity
  • High cholesterol
  • Elder abuse
  • High blood pressure

Each quarter, there will be an educational theme for our seniors. There will be nutrition presentations at each congregate site once a quarter. The same educational materials will be given to our homebound program participants in their lunches.

Our senior program offers education and referrals to a variety of information and services available for seniors and their caregivers. Some examples are:

  • Phones Vision Impaired Seniors
  • Education on Digital TV change for 2009
  • Assisted Living Referrals
